Catholic Schools Week Activities3 February 2016
Sunday, January 29—Faith. Academics. Service: In Our Parish
Open House – Free Pancake Breakfast
Students who attend the 11 a.m. Mass in their school uniform earn free dress certificates from Mrs. Burke
Students will serve as readers/choir at Mass/greeters, tour guides during Open House and greeters at the door.
Monday, January 30—Faith. Academics. Service: In Our Nation
Red/White/Blue day with a $1 donation – to be used to buy calling cards for service members
Students will write letters thanking military for their service to our country and letters will be sent to Sherry’s nephew, Brandon Sellers, who is serving in Korea for distribution.
Tuesday, January 31—Faith. Academics. Service: In Our Community
Students will participate in feeding the hungry/needy of our greater Bessemer community through the 6th grade service project.
6th grade will organize a sack lunch assembly line
Students in grades K-8 will decorate lunch sacks
Grades K-8 will go through assembly line and pack lunches (facilitated by 6th grade)
6th grade students will then deliver the lunches to The Foundry for distribution
6th grade will tour the facility, serve lunch through their soup kitchen with adult volunteers and teachers and then distribute the sack lunches as additional meals for the hungry and needy.
The Foundry serves more than 40 individuals in need each day and they are grateful for our willingness to reach out and help. This will be a valuable service/spiritual opportunity for our school and in particular for our 6th grade to reach out to our broader Bessemer Community.
Wednesday, February 1—Faith. Academics. Service: In Our Students
Crazy Hat or Sock Day for students
Students participate in a ‘read-in’ – Students share their favorite books and older students read to younger ones….
Assembly to celebrate CSW essay winners and hear them read to the student body – 2:15 gym.
Parents are encouraged and invited to attend.
Thursday, February 2—Faith. Academics. Service: In Our Vocations
School/class prayer for vocations to priestly and religious life
Vocations prayer sent home to families.
Students make a school banner thanking Fr. Cullen and Sister Mary Vernon for their service to the Church and our school.
Friday, February 3—Faith. Academics. Service: In Our Faculty, Staff and Volunteers
Donuts are past out during morning drop off for parents in thanks for providing their students with a Catholic Education
Students send home thank you notes thanking their parents for sending them to St. Aloysius
Staff lunch will be provided for staff 2:00
All School assembly for staff/8th grade student volleyball game
